Terms of Service — Sofra
App: Sofra (app.sofra), distributed on Google Play.
Developer: Khaled Ahmed — khaled.khaledahmed@gmail.com
Effective: 24 August 2026 · Applies to version: 1.0.0
Language: Published in English and Arabic; the English text governs if the two differ.
By installing or using Sofra you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. What the app is
Sofra is a calculator for splitting restaurant bills between people. It works entirely on your device and, as of version 1.0.0, has no internet access of any kind.
2. Price
The app is currently free, with no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no accounts. We reserve the right to introduce optional paid features in a future version, with notice in the app and an updated version of these terms before any such feature ships. Features you already have will not be taken behind a paywall retroactively.
3. Totals are estimates, not advice
The app computes totals from what you enter. Tax and service rates differ by country and by venue; the app applies only what you set. Its output is an arithmetic aid, not tax, legal, or financial advice, and you are responsible for what you and your table actually pay each other. Check the printed bill; the printed bill wins.
4. The app never moves money
Sofra does not initiate, execute, hold, or verify payments. A bill can record who to pay and how to reach them, and a shared summary can pass that along — but paying happens entirely outside the app, over whatever your table already uses, under those services' own terms. The app cannot confirm that anyone has actually paid anyone.
InstaPay, where available. On devices with Egypt's InstaPay app installed, Sofra offers a handoff that copies details you entered and opens InstaPay; everything that happens there is between you, your bank, and InstaPay under their own terms. InstaPay is a trademark and service of Egyptian Banks Company (EBC) operating under the Central Bank of Egypt. Sofra is an independent app, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by EBC, the Central Bank of Egypt, or any bank; references to InstaPay exist solely to describe interoperability with an app you may already have.
5. Your data is on your device
All data lives on your phone (see the Privacy Policy). You are responsible for your device and its backups; except where the law says otherwise, we are not liable for data lost with a lost, broken, or wiped phone.
6. Acceptable use
Use the app only lawfully. Do not attempt to misrepresent the app as a payment instrument or a receipt of payment — a shared summary is a note between friends, not a financial record.
7. No warranty; limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for disagreements at your table. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, or deprives you of mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live.
8. Open-source components
The app ships the following third-party open-source components, gratefully:
| Component | Copyright | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| Kotlin, kotlinx.serialization, kotlinx.coroutines | JetBrains s.r.o. and contributors | Apache-2.0 |
| AndroidX (Core, Activity, Compose, Material 3, CameraX, ExifInterface) | The Android Open Source Project | Apache-2.0 |
| ONNX Runtime | Microsoft Corporation | MIT |
| ZXing core | ZXing authors | Apache-2.0 |
| PP-OCR models and dictionaries (PaddleOCR project, converted to ONNX) | PaddlePaddle authors | Apache-2.0 |
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for new versions of the app. The current terms are always at this address with their effective date; material changes will be announced in the app before they apply. Changes are not retroactive.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, without depriving you of protections granted by mandatory law where you live — including, in the European Union, your consumer rights under EU law.
